An ESTACKATHON to create a “use case” and a prototype of a vehicle of the future
This year, SiERA, ESTACA’s electronics and robotics association, organised the first ESTACKATHON open to all students. The goal: to create a “use case” and a prototype of a vehicle of the future from a miniature (about 10 cm), Arduino electronic cards, motors and sensors.
Four teams of students from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th years competed over four hours, drawing on their programming skills. They had access to the School’s FabLab and worked in project mode supervised by a SiERA member.
The FabLab manager was also available to help students use the various tools (welding units for electronic circuits, electronic prototyping kits, printer circuit engravers, oscilloscopes, etc.). The winning team designed a car with an obstacle-avoidance system.
Martin Pâques, 4th-year student and president of SiERA spoke about the ESTACKATHON: "Personally, I have participated in several hackathons and I wanted to share my experience in ESTACA. It was a real satisfaction to see other students appreciate the experience as much as I did!
SiERA made the most of this event to promote programming and remove the stereotypes associated with this discipline. We hope that this first hackathon will open the door to new projects in cooperation with ESTACA’s partner companies."
