A new school in the ISAE Group: ENAC

17 February 2022

The Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC – National School of Civil Aviation), has just joined the ISAE Group which includes the best French schools in the field of aeronautics and space engineering: ISAE-SUPAERO, ISAE-ENSMA, ISAE-SUPMECA, ESTACA and École de l’Air et de l’Espace.

The ISAE Group, which includes ISAE-SUPAERO, ISAE-ENSMA, ISAE-SUPMECA, ESTACA and the École de l’Air et de l’Espace, brings together major French schools in the field of aeronautics and space engineering. It now includes the ENAC, the French National School of Civil Aviation. This flagship school in the “air transport” ecosystem, which trains airline pilots, air traffic controllers, senior aviation technicians and aircraft instructors, will enable ISAE Group better respond to the transformation in the aviation sector and in higher education.

The ISAE Group: a group of major aerospace schools that share the values of excellence, openness and innovation

Since it was created in 2011, the ISAE Group (ISAE-SUPAERO, ISAE-ENSMA, ISAE-SUPMECA, ESTACA, and École de l’Air et de l’Espace) has become a key player in the aerospace sector. Its goal is to meet the needs of industrial companies and institutions in the aerospace sector by training multidisciplinary engineers to a high scientific level. More than half of the young engineering graduates hired by companies in the aerospace sector come from ISAE Group schools. Member and associate schools share common values of excellence, openness and innovation and meet strict eligibility criteria, such student recruitment, professional integration of graduates in the aerospace sector, and efficiency of governance. International openness, research, academic, scientific and industrial partnerships, and social outreach are also evaluated.

For students from different schools, belonging to the group means they can benefit from common course weeks (e.g. mobility week), exchange years (e.g. substitution year) or participate in common projects (e.g. the Euroglider project)

ENAC joins the ISAE Group to develop already strong links in the field of training and research

Meeting all these criteria, the Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC) has just joined the ISAE Group as an associate school.

Its mission is to provide higher education for initial and continuing training to meet the needs of a large number of private companies in the aeronautics sector (aircraft manufacturers, equipment suppliers, airports, airlines, etc.) and public bodies (Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC), civil aviation authorities, air navigation service providers, etc.) in France, Europe and around the world.

For many years, the school has maintained and developed strong links with schools in the ISAE Group, particularly in the fields of training and research.

« We know each other better and better, and have strong complementarities with the Group's schools, promising many synergies to develop within the ISAE Group. Membership is brings this trajectory of rapprochement to its logical conclusion, eagerly awaited by the French aeronautics sector. In addition to the research and training projects that connect us already, we believe that the current transformations in the aviation sector and in higher education, and in particular the crucial issue of sustainable development, require a joint response. »
Olivier Chansou
Director General of ENAC
« We are delighted to welcome ENAC to the ISAE Group, which brings together engineering schools in the field of aerospace to better meet the needs of the sector. Ten years after it was founded, the ISAE Group has established itself as a quality label, as a promoter of ambitious joint projects, and as a partner recognized by industry, which supports it through the GIFAS. ENAC is a school entirely devoted to the aeronautics sector, has developed very strong links with industrial and institutional players complementary to those of the ISAE Group, and enjoys excellent international recognition. It has a natural place within the Group. »
Olivier Lesbre
President of the ISAE Group and Director General of ISAE-SUPAERO
« The arrival of ENAC within the ISAE Group is very good news for the aeronautics and space sector. We support this membership, which will strengthen the synergies and cooperation between key players in aerospace engineering training in our country and on a European level. It comes at a key moment when our companies more than ever need to welcome new talent to meet the many challenges within our teams. In the near future, that of recovering from the crisis; and in a climate of radical transformation in aviation, those of digitalization and low-carbon aircraft. A new era is opening up for air transport and aeronautics; the young people trained by the ISAE Group schools will undoubtedly have an important part to play in this new era. »
