Motorsport Master’s students at the FFSA Academy in Le Mans

17 November 2021

After a month of classes on the ESTACA-Laval campus, the twenty or so students in the Specialized Master’s® ‘Motorsport Engineering and Performance’ are now training at the legendary Le Mans track at the FFSA Academy.

Cooperation between two complementary institutions

ESTACA engineers are known for their ability to adapt to industrial needs, for their passion, their pragmatism and their taste for innovation. The Specialized Master® ‘Motorsport Engineering and Performance’, which opened in September 2021, provides specific skills that are in high demand but lacking in the motorsport sector. The FFSA has a great deal of experience in all regulatory issues, certification and driver behavior. The FFSA Academy prepares students to become racing car drivers, competition mechanics or driving instructors. The cooperation between the two institutions creates links between the various professions to better respond to the human, technical and operational needs of those involved in the motor racing.

Courses at the FFSA Academy in Le Mans to better understand driver/engineer interactions

This year, the Specialized Master® students are following some of their courses at the FFSA Academy to take advantage of the federation’s expertise. Students are trained to understand driver interactions, coaching and driving. They also have on-track Formula 4 modules with debriefings to help students improve their skills. This encourages the FFSA and ESTACA students to work together and therefore better understand each other’s expectations. Days are also dedicated to training on the FFSA Academy simulator, bringing together apprentice racing drivers and Specialized Master® students. ESTACA’s objective is to put future engineers in as many different situations as possible to apply what they have learned in class.

« From the beginning of our training, we’ve studied subjects specific to motor racing with highly qualified engineers. This motivates us to give it our best! Especially when we are put in real-life situations during our visits to the FFSA on the Le Mans circuit. For example, we were lucky to work a full day on the simulator, learning driving techniques and how to be a driving instructor with an experienced professional. »
