ESTACA Teams Perform Well at F1 in Schools Challenge

On March 8th and 9th, two ESTACA teams, Sirius Racing Team (Association iDrogen) and Horus Racing (association ITD), took part in the national final of the F1 in Schools challenge at the Xtrem Park on the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet. The teams, comprised of 1st year students, had to design a miniature Formula 1 car and challenge the competing teams in a variety of events. Of the 19 French teams taking part, the expert jury ranked Sirius Racing Team in 3rd position. Horus Racing set the French record for the fastest reaction time.
Designing a Miniature Formula 1
In teams of 3 to 6 students, participants had to design, analyze, build, test and race a miniature Formula 1 (10 x 20cm) on a track, using compressed air propulsion. The goal is to make the car as fast and efficient as possible.
The competition brings together teams from all over France. Their performance is evaluated on several criteria:
- the team’s communication skills during orals to explain design and engineering choices.
- technical choices in terms of company project and vehicle design.
- race time and reaction time.
- the quality of the “Pit Display”, to meet precise specifications.
A first step into the world of motorsport
Participating in this competition allows students to learn about project management in their first year and to take the first steps in the world of motorsports while building a professional network. Participants get to be evaluated by experts, to talk to partner companies and meet mentors and former participants, all F1 enthusiasts.
Throughout the weekend, the students worked independently to develop the technical efficiency of their miniature vehicles. They have also learned how to present their project in public, canvass sponsors and define race strategies.
Great performances for ESTACA teams: one on the podium and one beats a French record!
Following two days of racing and evaluation, the Sirius Racing Team, comprised of Maxime, project manager, Raphaël, communications and design manager, Tino, finance manager and Théo, design manager, came 3rd in the professional category. This win means they can represent France at the World Finals organized on a major circuit alongside a Formula 1 Grand Prix at the end of September!
Team Sirius would also like to congratulate the students of the second ESTACA team, Horus Racing, who set the French record for the best reaction time, with 0.103s, and achieved a race time of 1.235s, which was indeed a fine performance!
Congratulations to both student teams!
