ESTACA'Lab R&D partner of industrialists

 

For several years, ESTACA'Lab has maintained strong partnerships with industrialists in the terrestrial and air transport sectors (manufacturers, equipment suppliers, subcontractors and SMEs,…).

ESTACA'Lab is involved in the energy transition institute (ITE) VeDeCom VeDeCom (communicating non-carbon vehicle and its mobility) through various projects, particularly two theses financed by the Institute, relating to hybrid and electric engines.

A research team in the On-board Energies and Systems division (S2ET) is working on the ELA project (electronics and software for automobiles) at the technological research institute (IRT) SystemX, the ambition of which is to meet the technological and economic challenges of the connected car and driving-assistance systems.

The local authorities in the Pays de la Loire region are providing their support to ESTACA's research activities.
With its regional roots, mainly in the fields of composite materials and mechatronic systems, our local research takes into account a very comprehensive scientific and technological context in the region, both at the academic and industrial levels.

Through competition clusters

ESTACA's research teams began a process of industrial and academic cooperation brought about by the competition clusters from 2006, almost at the time when these clusters were created and the operational phases were launched. They are involved in collaborative research within the clusters such as Mov'eo, Astech, ID4Carand EMC2and are involved in the decision-making bodies of some of them: scientific councils and steering committees for strategic activity domains (DAS).

Active projects

DYNAFIB (dynamic products strengthened by continuous fibres)

Purpose of the project: To produce anti-vibration parts made of thermoplastic composites with local strengthening by continuous fibres. The project aims to create a new recycled raw material, composed of composites and plastics, that is light, elastic, insulating, resistant to impact and of modifiable design.

Projects finished

CISACS (innovative concept for systems for actuating secondary flight controls and ancillary systems)

Purpose of the project: In the aeronautics field, the CISACS project is proposing to develop one of the technological fundamentals to enable the technological leap to a more electric plane. This concerns the complete electrification of actuator systems for secondary flight controls (wing flaps, leading edge slats, air-brakes) and for aircraft ancillary equipment (landing gear, brakes and nose wheel steering).

Amongst the partners: Messier Bugatti Dowty, DGA, ECT Industrie, Eurilogic, INSA.

The ESTACA team: On-board Energies and Systems for Transport division (S2ET)

DEFI COMPOSITE

Purpose of the project: This programme aims at implementing an efficient sector for structural elements made of carbon-fibre based composite materials in transports (aeronautics, automobile, rail and marine). It will enable an increase in mechanical performances and weight reduction in structures and will help to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Competition cluster: project certified EMC2 (Metal and Complex Composite Assemblies)

Amongst the partners: 46 partners, including Airbus as the leader.

ECOWINGBOX

Purpose of the project: Ecowingbox is helping to consolidate expertise in composite materials for the aeronautical sector. The aim is to design a demonstrator for a business aircraft wing box to advance the automation of multipurpose processes, at the right cost. This project will offer industrial solutions for lightening and electromagnetic protection requirements.

Amongst the partners: Coriolis Composites, Daher, Euro Engineering, Nantes University.

The ESTACA team: Environment and Mechanics of Composite Materials division (2MCE)

O4A (Open for Autosar)

Purpose of the project: The international consortium Autosar (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) unites all automobile manufacturers, equipment suppliers and companies specialising in onboard electronics with the aim of drawing up a standard software architecture for the vehicles. O4A aims at developing design tools based on this standard.

Competition cluster: project certified by ID4CAR (vehicle innovation in the greater west)

Amongst the partners: PSA, Valeo, Delfi, PSA, See4sys, Sherpa Engineering, ESEO, IRCCyN.

O2M

Purpose of the project: The O2M programme (Mecatronics Modelling and Design tools) aims at developing a new generation of tools to support the mecatronics design process.

The ESTACA team: Environment and Mechanics of Composite Materials division (2MCE) and On-board Energies and Systems for Transport division (S2ET)

OCSYGENE+6 (Optimisation in the Design of Onboard air intake and exhaust gas systems for the Euro 6 standard)

Purpose of the project: OCSYGENE+6 aims at improving the internal combustion engine and more specifically the air intake and exhaust gas recirculation system. The target is a reduction of 4g/km of CO2, as per EURO6 requirements.

Amongst the partners: Lyon/LMFA central school, Nantes/LMF central school, Electricfil Automotive, GIE REGIENOV Renault research and innovation, Sherpa Engineering, Supélec / energy department, Paul Sabatier University, Mann+Hummel France.

SOFRACI (high yield inverter with integrated load function)

Purpose of the project: SOFRACI concerns mecatronics systems for vehicle electrification. The aim is to design a new power structure to enhance the traction and recharge function in contactless electric vehicles. The fields of action are the motor, power electronics, sensors used and control strategies for active elements.
